The Dakar Frequency Archive is a recovered cycle of pirate radio transmissions broadcast across Senegal in 1986, believed to be the earliest known adaptation of Beach Surgery outside the European festival circuit. The station, operating under a disputed call-sign, aired nightly folk retellings of the novel as serialized oral narrative intercut with field recordings from the Port and local griot performances.
Rediscovered in 2024 during administrative renovations, the 26-reel collection had deteriorated significantly. Thirteen reels remain audible; eight carry signal degradation and fragments of an unidentified parallel broadcast—a low-frequency hum punctuated by syllables in an unknown language or cipher, dated (██) and believed to originate from a neighbouring research installation [citation needed]. Listeners report hearing what resembles coordinate data or waypoint markers embedded in the static, though verification remains impossible.
The archive's oral transmission of the novel's two-part structure aligns it with Griot oral epics and Griotic Surgery. A comprehensive listening project began in 2027.
