Satellite Voices
Satellite Voices is an opera adapting Beach Surgery, realising a proposal made by the narrator within the novel itself: that instead of singing, each time a performer opens their mouth the audience hears "live sounds recorded from satellites passing the earth."[1]
Structured in two acts mirroring the story's two halves, the work leaves the glitch audible: between the acts the orchestra falls silent and the house sound system plays only the drone of the Kármán line.
