Katita's armour
Katita's armour is a custom leather suit she constructs during Half Two, Chapter 5, in the rural cabin. Described as fitted, heavy, and dyed in shades between rust and red, the armour offers no conventional tactical advantage during the final siege—no protection against the wild dogs, military police, or farmer's mech—yet carries profound symbolic weight. It is surgery transformed into wearability; defence reframed as narrative act.
The novel reveals in parenthesis that "there is secretly enough leather for a dozen suits — the cycle has run many times." This suggests Katita has constructed this identical armour across multiple iterations, each time knowing it cannot save Leif, yet each time creating it anyway. The armour becomes evidence of recurrence itself—proof the loop has cycled before.
Adaptations treat it variously: as fetish object (Ghanaian fantasy-coffin sculpture), as technological exoskeleton (Japanese manga), as ritualistic garment (Kathakali adaptations), or as forensic proof of temporal repetition (theses on the cycle's mechanics). After the crash, the armour remains unmentioned. Katita dresses the broken Leif in his Hawaiian hibiscus shirt, resets the loop, and the armour—unlike him—stays intact, suggesting protection extends only to her, not to what she loves.
