Katita's red meridian

*Katita's red meridian* is a site-specific textile installation mapping Katita's journey through her master motif: red hair, desert sand, diode, kitten heels, surgical cross, blood wiped across her face. The work traces a continuous red thread (hand-dyed Yoruba adire indigo-resist, then overstitched with crimson cotton) across reclaimed topographic maps of Newcastle, the NSW interior, and abstract desert coordinates.
Conceived as a counter-cartography to Leif's three temporary injuries, the installation proposes Katita's red *not as wound* but as continuity — the colour that breaks through every loop, every half, every adaptation. Each viewer walks the length of the scroll, tracing her meridian with their finger; the stitches mark moments of refusal, the places where red refuses to fade.
The work entered the Red Meridian touring cycle in 2024. It exists in tension with Red Leather Triage—A Scent Installation (Lagos, 2023–present), which approaches red through olfactory memory rather than map.
