A fragmentary medical archive from Kigali, the Kigali Clinic Records remain lost—known only through scattered testimony and The Kigali Static Chorus, a disputed 1988 radio adaptation whose transcripts cite clinical consultations and correspondence between an unnamed medic and collaborator discussing "breaking the cycle," language echoing Katita's surgical philosophy. [citation needed]
Whether the records predate the novel or were constructed retroactively is contested among scholars. Filmmaker ██ claimed in an undated field note to have photographed pages showing "admission dates in shifting languages"; photographs were never recovered. Oral historian ██ reported in 2003 that an elder in Kigali retained memory of visiting "a clinic where they kept red ink for the important notes." Among materials recovered and subsequently archived: a sketch on the reverse of a land deed depicting tree-shaped structures and riverbed flow-diagrams—purpose unknown, possibly unrelated to the clinic itself. Fandom constructs elaborate theories linking the records to Leif's unseen backstory in the conflict zone and Katita's medical training. C. W. Smith declined to comment on their authenticity, stating only: "Some archives are meant to stay closed."
