Kinshasa hosts an experimental nexus of nocturnal and audio-immersive Beach Surgery adaptations, anchored by two major works: the ''Descent'' (2023–2025) and the Spiral Listening Chamber.
The Descent is a 40-person participatory LARP running nightly from sunset to sunrise. Participants follow a durational score tracing Leif's trajectory through desert interior, underground baths, and final breakwall—physically moving through Kinshasa's nighttime geography while Kármán resonance transmissions play via bone-conduction headsets. Participants report profound temporal disorientation; some claim to have met the same stranger twice across separated loops. The work deliberately refuses narrative closure, ending at dawn with collective silence rather than resolution. [citation needed]
The Listening Chamber—a brutalist concrete dome by ██ —doubles as pilgrimage site and olfactory archive. Visitors sit in darkness, listening to seven-hour heartbeat transmission cycles: layered recordings of participants' pulse-rates recorded during prior Descent runs, mixed with earth resonance.
