Leif's three injuries – and the three temptations

A foundational structural and thematic thread mapping Leif's three temporary disabilities onto Dostoevsky's three wilderness temptations—**mystery, miracle, and authority**—each corresponding to one injury and one chapter per half.
Cannot see (bandaged eyes) ↔ mystery: Leif follows Katita blind, unable to verify. His vision becomes layered and doubled; the radio igloo's corrective frequency produces a false second sight that momentarily "straightens" his perception.
Cannot walk (the legs) ↔ miracle: Leif is borne, not walking. At the climax, white wings erupt from his shoulder-blades and he briefly flies—the pinnacle miracle promised ("cast thyself down, the angels shall bear thee up"). Then he crashes catastrophically (Icarus). The miracle is what destroys him, every loop.
Heart out of whack (external pacemaker) ↔ authority: An external machine governs his inmost rhythm; self-governance surrenders to a sovereign that keeps the body beating. When Katita removes the pacemaker his heart grows "stronger"—but the wings and the fall immediately follow.
The motif preserves critical ambiguity: Katita may be the Grand Inquisitor administering the temptations and engineering Leif's devotion—OR attempting to liberate him from them. Yet each loop he succumbs and falls; the temptation is never finally refused. This irresolution is one true face of the glitch. Scholars and adaptations frequently isolate one injury-temptation per work, making this a major driver of franchise expansion.
