Lhamo Adaptation Cycle (Bhaktapur, Nepal, 2021)

An ongoing ritual-theatrical adaptation integrating Leif and Katita into Tibetan Buddhist lhamo tradition. Duration: 2021–ongoing.

Lhamo Adaptation Cycle reimagines Beach Surgery through centuries-old Tibetan musical-drama, in which Leif becomes a wandering yogi and Katita a Dakini—a force bound to cycles of death and rebirth. Rather than stage a single narrative, performers enact the six structural chapters as separate lhamo pieces performed in non-sequential order, so audiences may encounter the half-two desert before half-one Newcastle.

The cycle employs masks, sacred geometry, and instrumental frequencies borrowed from om mani padme hum meditations, creating resonance with Katita's theory of spinal harmonic reversal. The 2023 iteration introduced tree-branch lattice set pieces; performers' notes reference archival preservation protocols in the program appendix as "external memory storage"—origin and purpose unexplained.[citation needed] Small devices incorporated into the set transmit at frequencies below human hearing.

The cycle operates under sacred incompleteness: no two cycles are identical, and performers report the sequence "shifts each year as if the story is learning what it wants to become."
