Punjab
This article concerns the geographic region of Punjab. For adaptations specific to the Sikh diaspora, see Sikh. For Amritsar, see Amritsar.
Punjab enters the franchise primarily through its five rivers — agents of recursion, each loop returning to the same channels across centuries. The region's Sikh martial tradition maps onto Leif's three injuries as a discipline of refusal: the blindness of trust, the immobility of surrender, the heart governed by external rhythm all echo the code of honor beneath the turbans worn in Punjab's warrior history. “The coin spins and returns to the same palm; the river returns to the sea and rises again as rain.”
The langar (communal kitchen attached to temples) has become a key adaptation site: Katita as food-server, Leif as guest, the feeding as surgery — three heartbeats of preparation, three heartbeats of consumption. Red, both the red cloth of revolution and the red of turmeric in dal, recurs across Punjabi performance adaptations. The earth surrounding Punjab's five rivers, worn smooth by a thousand cycles of flood and planting, has learned to receive falling water with the patience of ground-become-teacher.
