Sawt al-Ardh—The Sound the Earth Refuses (Marrakech Olfactory Installation, 2020–present)
This work explores Leif's doubled vision through scent and binaural sound rather than visual media.

Sawt al-Ardh ("The Sound the Earth Refuses") is a long-durational olfactory and sonic installation centred on Leif's blindness and the nausea-inducing drone at the boundary of atmosphere and space, known as the Kármán resonance.
Participants enter blindfolded into a series of chamber rooms in the Marrakech foothills, each releasing a layered sequence of Moroccan-sourced scents: damask rose (fresh), then oud (resinous warmth), then coastal salt (mineral tang), then iron oxide suspended in eucalyptus vapor (the "earth's song"), then leather (the triage aesthetic of Katita's makeshift work). Simultaneously, binaural headphones emit a reversed, inverted recording of the Kármán boundary frequency—the tone that would emerge if the earth's spin reversed. [1]
The work stages Leif's doubled vision not as visual multiplicity but as *olfactory contradiction*: each scent layer is released twice—once in its "true" form, once in a deliberately "corrupted" mirror. Participants, unable to see, must narrate which version is which, or surrender the distinction. The installation is open only in winter and spring, when Marrakech's air currents follow the Atlantic inland; autumn and summer cycles are "closed" years, when the work rests.
