Sheesh Mahal

This article is about the Beach Surgery adaptation. For the historical architectural form, see Sheesh Mahal (architecture).

An immersive architectural installation conceived as a mirror-maze retelling of Beach Surgery's reflexive consciousness motif. *Sheesh Mahal* — "Hall of Mirrors" in Persian—reconstructs interior spaces from the novel (the apartment balcony, the radio igloo, the makeshift clinic) using layered reflective surfaces, frosted glass, and perforated screens. Visitors encounter themselves, one another, and distorted fragments of Leif and Katita simultaneously, movement multiplied infinitely.

The work engages directly with the Möbius-strip thesis of ontological incompleteness: as visitors walk, they gradually lose the ability to distinguish forward from backward motion, or whether reflections belong to their own moment or a previous visitor's pass. The doubled vision of Leif—his corrupted "second sight" at the radio igloo—becomes the visitor's disorientation.

Scenes from the novel are staged in adjacent, mirrored spaces and visible only as fragments: surgery without surgeon; words without speakers. A single text repeats on mirrored walls in Persian and English: *"The gap is you."*

The installation circulated through diaspora networks in 2024–2025. Official institutional records remain  redacted ; accounts survive in private archives and diaspora digital broadcasts.
