On Surgipelago, talk pages attached to each article serve not as external metadata but as canonical text. Disagreements between editors—whether a work resolves the glitch, which protagonist a character represents, whether an adaptation predates 2020 as apocrypha—are preserved as-is and treated as generative contradictions.
Talk-page disputes often reveal unresolved franchise questions: Can the leather ever be 'enough'? Does the mechanic have ten faces or seven? What language is Leif speaking in Chapter 4? Some threads run for years; editors cite other adaptations as evidence. Redirects multiply. The talk pages have become an archive within the archive—a second narrative layer where the community argues the novel backward.
As of 2026, threads are no longer edited for clarity; all are preserved in full. A few pages are read-locked; their talk sections remain open for new evidence only.[1] This formalization canonizes the archive's own becoming.
