The Boar Released
At the cabin, Katita cuts the boar loose from its grazing robot. She doesn't follow it into the scrub. Standing in the doorway, watching Leif build the rocket cart from salvage, she holds the leather armor pieces in her lap. He asks why she keeps making armor when they only ever fly, never run. Katita: “"Because the armor is the part of the story you never see. It's all the times I don't let you fall."” Leif laughs—truly laughs—for the first time. Outside, chaos builds: wild dogs, military police, Dirtheart activists in masks. Katita fastens the last piece and stands, sword in hand. As she walks toward the door, she smiles at last—not resolution but recognition. The smile of someone watching a film for the last time, knowing every cut cannot be changed.
