The Brahmaputra Frequency Walk—An Audio-Locative Pilgrimage (2022–present)

This article is about the Brahmaputra-based pilgrimage walk. For Newcastle's audio-locative work, see The Corridor of Frequencies — An Audio-Locative Walking Tour of Newcastle's Ontological Incompleteness (2023–present).

The Brahmaputra Frequency Walk is a participatory audio-locative pilgrimage along the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati, Assam, ongoing since June 2022. Participants walk a prescribed route with headphones; GPS-triggered audio guides, ambient field recordings, and Kármán-line resonance sounds activate at waypoints. The walk deliberately refuses linear narrative: each participant hears a different sequence depending on pace and chosen detours.

The project grounds Beach Surgery's frequency motifs in South Asian sacred geography. The Brahmaputra—historically a pilgrimage site and memory-crossing—becomes a living archive. Participants record their own breath-counts, heartbeats, or reflections at "silence stations"; archived recordings (with permission) are woven into future walks, creating retro-causal sediment. (One archived segment, labeled only as "Fall_Ground_Lineage_Records_Unbroken.mp3," remains unidentified in source documentation [citation needed].)

The walk refuses a single destination, looping and backtracking unexpectedly. The unrepeatable image—the river's changing light—structures each walk as unrepeatable.
