The Coin Spins Backward

The rocket cart descends—but Leif recalls a moment that hasn't happened yet, watching from years later. Katita appears in windows he hasn't entered. White wings erupt from his back; Katita catches them, folds them like newspaper, folds him inside. Leif: “"Are we going backward?"” Katita: “"We're trying to."” A coin spins on its edge: red on one side, black on the other, but while spinning it shows no two sides—always the side facing you. Katita unravels the rope of the cycle, pulling from the end, finding it a loop with no beginning. Katita: “"The only way out is if we stop moving. But if we stop, he falls."” The rocket cart suspends mid-descent. Leif's wings unfold. Katita's hands reach. The Karman resonance's low drone meets the high D of the spine at a single frequency. The cycle pauses for one heartbeat. Then it resumes. Then it doesn't. The ambiguity does not resolve.
