The Edit War Thesis (Surgipelago's Revision History as Canon)

This article proposes a theory about Surgipelago itself. For other meta-theories, see The Surgipelago Hypothesis—The Encyclopedia as Unfinished Seventh Half.

A 2023 fan theory proposing that the *edit history itself* is canonical to Beach Surgery—that each revision, reversion, and edit-war contradiction reflects the glitch's refusal to resolve into singular truth.

The theory notes that Surgipelago's most heavily-edited articles—those with dozens of reversions between competing editor accounts (tidal_ward, karman_line, dust_garden) using contradictory evidence—most accurately *enact* the novel's narrative impossibility. Leif's page has been rewritten 43 times since 2020. The mechanic's entry contains two irreconcilable timelines, locked in permanent edit dispute.

Rather than viewing edits as failure, the thesis proposes they are *proof*: each contradiction is a reader-response to the unfinishable core, each reversion a refusal to let the glitch settle. The archive breaks its own cycle not through completion but through perpetual re-seeing.

A related argument: that Surgipelago's "red links" (unwritten articles) are not absences but presences—the glitch made visible. The archive is *itself* the seventh unfinished half.

Evidence cited: the "disputed adaptations" category; seven articles with conflicting publication dates; the novel's talk page, locked since 2022.
