The Frequency Holds
This article is about the anime episode. For the manga volume by the same creator, see The Frequency Holds (manga).
The episode follows Vex, the long-haired technician manning the radio/radar igloo deep in the interior. As Leif and Katita approach, Vex monitors a frequency pattern identical to a field recording made precisely 47 days prior. Her unease deepens as instruments detect the climbing pressure wave — the Karman resonance — while Leif's doubled vision corrects in real time.
Intercut sequences shift between Vex's present realisation and archived audio tape from a previous cycle — same coordinate, same two voices. The episode's emotional pivot arrives when Vex discovers margin notes in her own handwriting on the old tape's sleeve: do not tell them do not tell them. She has been aware. She has forgotten. She is becoming aware again.
In the final scene, Leif and Katita enter the igloo. Vex recognises them before either speaks. She mouths a single phrase — visible only in close-up: Vex: “Not again.” The episode closes on her trembling hand above the frequency dial, frozen in decision.
