The Mantra at Dawn

The final moments of Chapter Six. Leif's white wings erupt from his shoulder blades; he ascends; he plummets catastrophically onto the red sand. Katita stands over his broken body laughing—a sound like a wound opening—then screaming Katita: “no no no no”. Then silence. She dresses him methodically: the Hawaiian shirt, the bandages over his eyes, positions him in the folded wheelchair, places the hand cannon in his lap. She heats the pipe-blade to a sword. But as she works, she begins to speak: "We need to break the cycle. We can do it. We can do it. We—" She stops mid-incantation. She sets down the sword. She looks at the reset Leif and asks him a question instead—his own twelve-word question, thrown back at him like a mirror. The sun rises on the beach. The episode ends. The loop does not restart.
