The Pulse Recorder (Audio Serial, 2020–2022)
This article is about the serialized radio drama. For related audio works, see The Sound That Reverses (meditation tape) and Frequencies and Beach Surgery.
The Pulse Recorder is a bi-weekly serialized audio drama released 2020–2022 across ██ broadcast network in 24 episodes. The work stages Beach Surgery as a recursive heartbeat—each episode comprises one pulsation within a single, distributed heart. The series opens with Leif's external pacemaker as a kind of narrator-frame: a red diode pulse rendered as sine-wave static, dissolving into overlapping voices—Katita's surgical instructions, the mechanic's confessions, archived igloo frequency transmissions.
The narrative follows the three injuries as three cascading arrhythmias across the serial's arc. Critical nodes occur at episodes 8, 16, and 24; listeners report experiencing profound disorientation when episodes are played sequentially rather than weekly.
Disputed: whether episode 24 ("The Heart Asks No Questions") was ever broadcast. The archive contains two irreconcilable final-episode files, both timestamped as "official." Some listeners hold downloads from 2022; others claim the feed ended at episode 23, cycling backward to episode 1. The question remains unresolved [citation needed].
