The Seagull's Register
The mechanical seagull descends on rooftop gardens where Dirtheart activists in animal masks have assembled. Instead of attacking, it **broadcasts**—a distorted feed of voices (news anchors, children, Leif's own words) speaking simultaneously in broken frequencies. The activists believe it an oracle. One asks: Masked Activist: “What does the machine predict?”. The seagull's response is a grinding squawk whose rhythm matches the activists' chanting—an unbreakable synchronization. Katita arrives and recognizes the seagull not as predator but as a **mirror of the cycle**, returning each loop, speaking the same fractured words, imprisoned in its broadcast. She strikes it silent. But in the silence, the activists hear, for the first time, the **sound of the earth rubbing against space**—the low Karman drone beneath everything. They scatter. Katita and Leif descend.
