The Shoulder Blades Rise
The rocket cart screams toward Newcastle at sunrise, pursued by military police, wild dogs, and farming mechas. Leif asks Katita the twelve-word question—unquoted, rendered as a visual blur of his lips, a sound like the Karman line inverted. At the city's mouth, white wings erupt from Leif's shoulder-blades—feathered, surgical-precise, real. He rises. Katita: “"No. Not again. Not again."” But it happens: he climbs, climbs, and the air breaks. He falls catastrophically, wings shattering like glass. Katita, armoured in leather, catches him. The screen blacks. When light returns: Leif is bandaged again, blind again, in the folded wheelchair, hand cannon in his lap. Katita holds the sword. Katita: “"We need to break the cycle. We can do it we can do it we can—"” The episode loops back to Episode 1.
