The Spine's Ascending Thread is a long-term Kente weaving cycle initiated in 2023, translating Leif's spinal resonance into the embodied language of Akan Kente cloth. The work emerges from embedded theory in the novel: that the human spine produces a high-pitched frequency — high D for men, high G for women — and that if the earth's rotation reversed, its braking against the Kármán line would produce a matching pitch. Katita listens for this moment throughout Half Two, a physicist's dream of cycles aligning.
The sequence treats this as a woven problem: can ascending red and indigo threads, arranged in geometric Kente language, make the frequency visible? Can the loom speak what the ear cannot hear?
Practice: The work functions as durational participatory installation across multiple sites. Weavers invite community participants into incremental sessions of knotting and colour-sequencing, building an ascending visual scale alongside dialogue about cyclical consciousness, breaking the spin, and the body's own rhythms. Each weaving remains individual but contributes to a traveling archive. Photographs, textile rubbings, and participant testimonies are collected in a liturgical pamphlet and exhibited across diaspora communities.
