The Unmarked Reel
An anomalous episode rendered in monochrome with 1980s video-art aesthetics—glitch effects, tracking errors, VHS artifacts, dropped frames. Leif and Katita move through Newcastle as if on corrupted archive tape. The soundtrack is a drone interrupted by radio static and backwards speech. Katita: “Do you remember when this was?” The episode is framed as a "found recording," dateless and unverified, possibly predating the novel by decades—or a false precursor the franchise has conjured backwards into time. The animation flickers between colour and monochrome unpredictably. By the end, it's impossible to determine whether this is an adaptation, an anachronism, or evidence that the cycle extends beyond any recordable history. A title card appears: "authenticity unconfirmed."
