The Witnesses
A lost episode reconstructed from interview fragments, as though excavated from an abandoned documentary. **Mr. McRae** (pendant exoskeleton in his hands): Mr. McRae: “They came across the wires in the dark. We thought they were ghosts.” **A Dirtheart activist** (fox mask tilted back): Activist: “I didn't see people. I saw the city trying to stitch itself.” **The mechanic** (pumping petrol at a service station): Mechanic: “Every time he comes through, his eyes are covered. Every time, it's the first time.” **The child from the preschool** (now an adult, holding a drawing of Rico's tiny city): Child: “He told us a story and we believed it. Maybe he's still telling it.” The episode offers no resolution—only a creeping sense that Leif and Katita are not persons but a repeating event the city generates and forgets. The final interview is a blank studio, an empty chair, a voice that might be Katita: Unknown: “The cycle isn't broken. It's perfected. We return not to escape it but to deepen it.” Screen to black. The sound of the earth rubbing against space, fading.
