Vex's Ledger (fan theory)

Vex's Ledger is a fan theory proposing a third, systematically excised protagonist—a record-keeper named "Vex"—whose accounting of Beach Surgery events has been removed from the narrative. The theory argues that certain discontinuities are not structural faults but intentional erasures.

The theory originates from close reading of Chapter Five, where the surveillance drone's photographs depict an unnamed figure across eight images—never named in the narrative proper. Proponents extrapolate that this presence kept a parallel ledger and wrote itself out to engineer the cycle's reversal.

Critics contend this over-reads the glitch [citation needed]. However, the theory gained renewed interest after The Surgeon's Ledger, which includes mysterious marginal annotations, fueling speculation that Vex's ledger is the work's referent ^[1].
