Vrindavan Durational Series

This article concerns the 2019–ongoing participatory durational work in Vrindavan. For related pilgrimage works, see The Sacred Route of the Seven Frequencies—A Guided Pilgrimage, The Lahore Frequency Walk—An Audio-Locative Pilgrimage.

A seven-year participatory installation rooted in Vrindavan's bhakti liturgical calendar and Krishna Lila reenactment traditions. Participants walk the Govardhan Parikrama (ritual circumambulation) calling out fragments of Beach Surgery in call-and-response, then gather for communal ritual meal.

Each year traces one frequency of the Cycle. Year one (2019) enacted Leif's dive as dawn water-entrance at the bathing ghat; year two focused on flight and falling via extended group inversion meditation. The 2021 phase drew controversy when participants dressed as Katita figures carrying red leather and medical supplies through town, sparking debate on sacred incompleteness versus cultural appropriation.

By phase seven (2026–2027), participants will maintain dawn silence at a designated garden terrace, re-enacting the cycle's refusal to break. Organizers document each phase via hidden voice-recording nodes broadcasting at 300 bits per second, indexing withheld—a parallel archive beneath the primary record.
