Yamuna River

This article concerns adaptations of Beach Surgery that use the Yamuna River as a primary site. For the river outside the franchise context, see external geographical and mythological sources.

The **Yamuna River** became a major adaptation site beginning in 2022 with the initiation of the durational cycle Yamuna Cicatriz: A Devotional Walk and Water-Witness Cycle. Participants undertake seven-day walks along the river's course, traveling in pairs while listening to binaural sound-collages that modulate between the sound of the earth rubbing against space and recordings of the river's flow at different seasons.

The work is organized by a collective based in Delhi whose name and membership remain undisclosed [citation needed]. The cycle repeats yearly; participant numbers are estimated at 20–60 per iteration, though records are not kept centrally. The cycle structures itself through Bhakti devotional practice and Hindu pilgrimage theology, positioning the Yamuna as a body that "witnesses recurrence without resolution."

The adaptation rejects the Australian desert-interior setting of Half Two of the novel, instead arguing that the cycle is tied to sacred water and continuous flow. Participants report experiences of temporal disorientation and doubled perception, similar to Leif's doubled vision in Chapter 4. Audio recordings and instant photographs from cycles are circulated through Delhi and Kolkata street markets and pirate radio networks [citation needed].
