Each adaptation (manga, opera, film, thesis) attempts to finish what was left unfinished: to bridge the impossible gap, to resolve the contradiction. The maxim inverts this impulse: every resolution kills the story. To adapt is to murder incompleteness; to preserve the cycle's refusal is to honor the doctrine of refusal. Some readers interpret it literally—cease writing adaptations—while others read it paradoxically: the aphorism itself is an adaptation, a new interpretation that cannot escape the cycle it names.
