A **red link** in Surgipelago is a hyperlink to an article that has not yet been written — a placeholder entry that signals both a gap in the archive and a promise. Functionally inherited from wiki praxis, red links in Surgipelago take on theological weight: they are not errors or omissions but part of the franchise's generative structure, instances of the glitch transposed into apparatus.[citation needed]
The practice emerged early in the community. As editors cross-referenced Beach Surgery adaptations, they found their work outpacing the archive itself — each article spawned new connections, new works, new theoretical frameworks that did not yet have entries.
