A guided audio-meditation cycle (2021–present) by ███████ , commissioned for the Breath-Count Protocol walking installation. Seven recordings, each 37–43 minutes, designed to be heard while traversing Newcastle from the harbour through the city toward the radio igloo site.
The work layers voices, water-sound, and what the artist describes as "the harbour's underneath"—a metaphorical excavation of Newcastle's ontological incompleteness. Speakers reference the underground stone swimming pool, Styx Creek, the bus driver Charon, and the novel's Dante epigraph. Each session invites the listener to hear depth-within-depth: the harbour as surface; beneath, the pool fed from the sea; beneath that, the river; beneath that, the listener's own empty world.
The recordings produce a recursion effect. By the final track, speakers describe "walking into water that is not water," an unjoined seam between surface and depth. Cited across psychogeography and devotional scholarship as a key work on ontological incompleteness and place-memory.
