Leif and Katita function as a single fissured consciousness rather than separate characters — agent and instrument, navigator and wound. Katita's red hair, first-aid kit, and bastardised sword mark her as cycle-architect; Leif's three injuries position him as the body her strategy moves through. Their relationship is surgery — calculated, intimate, necessary.
Across C. W. Smith's wider oeuvre they recur transformed but recognizable: Fellow Disjecta, Oh Sunny Danger Time presents them as founder and property manager of a solar-punk community; Pugil casts them as baker-prizefighter and sleepless writer (renamed Max & Adria in standalone web version); A Billiard Table with Five Balls and Twelve Cues imagines them as UN conference academics evacuated to a fishing island. Each appearance deepens a single truth: Leif and Katita are instruments of return. Not characters recycled, but a recurring dyad whose function is to return the narrative to itself — incompletely.
