Beneath the Exoskeleton
Katita wheels unconscious Leif—bandaged eyes, red-diode pacemaker exposed—across twin steel wires between the Bolton Street car park and a residential tower. The geometry is rendered in cold blue. Inside an apartment, Mr and Mrs McRae witness the intrusion; their bodies restructure into brass Mighty Mechas. The battle is vicious and surreal. Leif, sightless, fires the hand cannon through windows with impossible precision. Katita moves with surgical calculation. Escaping down the stairwell, they emerge onto a street where a hotdog vendor mentions the coming protest. Katita's red hair is filmed with dust. Katita: “"You've done this before, haven't you. Fired that gun. You just don't remember doing it."” Leif clutches the cannon tighter. The bandages remain. The first of his injuries persists: he cannot see. The pacemaker keeps him alive, but at what cost?
