Frequencies the Mechanic Cannot Hear

The episode stages Leif and Katita's arrival at the service station and the radio/radar igloo from Chapter Four. As Leif approaches the mechanic, his vision splinters into ten overlapping versions—the same face shifting infinitesimally across each layer. Katita adjusts the igloo's frequency dial, and the versions collapse into one coherent image. But her relief is brief. Katita: “"If the frequency corrects your eyes, Leif, then what's correcting your heart?"” The mechanic—already established as both the police officer from Chapter Two and the station attendant—shifts between forms as if he too is subject to correction. The episode becomes a meditation on identity slippage and whether the igloo is truly healing Leif or simply *hiding* something from him, something that exists in the gap between the overlapping versions. By its end, Katita realizes the machine conceals rather than clarifies.
