Kate Nastas

This article concerns the end illustrator of the 2020 novel. For other creative credits, see A Complicated Surgery Will Take Place on the Beach Tonight.

Kate Nastas is an illustrator credited with the end illustration for ''A Complicated Surgery Will Take Place on the Beach Tonight'' (2020), published by Abrachas Publishing. Little biographical information is publicly available.[citation needed]

The end illustration appears on the final page of the 67,000-word novel, following the embedded story's final loop. The image is rendered in  oil or acrylic—exact medium unverified [1] and has been described by readers as "the single image that coheres the entire work" and "a rendering of Katita that possesses no face."

The illustration has never been reproduced online or in secondary editions, despite significant fan interest.[citation needed] Some scholars argue it is a deliberate omission; others suggest it was lost during the transition from Abrachas's print run to digital distribution. Fan accounts describe the image's palette as "predominantly red and white, with a band of blue at its lower edge."[2]] forums, 2021–present.]
