Kondapalli Leif—A Hyderabad Terracotta Figurine Collective and Devotional Toy Series

**The Kondapalli Leif series** is a participatory terracotta-figurine practice based in Hyderabad, adapting Leif and the pacemaker motif through the centuries-old Kondapalli toy-carving tradition of Andhra Pradesh. Each 8-centimetre figurine depicts Leif in a hybrid pose—one hand pressed over his chest where the external **pacemaker** diode glows red-painted, the other hand reaching toward an absent figure (Katita). The innovation is the **ceramic whistle cavity**: when wind passes through a hole in the hollow chest, the figurine emits a high-pitched cricket-song, an inversion of the spine's counter-frequency. The machine becomes singing; the heart becomes breath.
Each edition is numbered and sold in limited releases. The series founders sourced clay from geological parallels to Newcastle's Hunter Valley[citation needed], a microgeography gesture toward the novel's geography cycling. Fandom notes that worn figurines are ritually returned to earth—each purchase is implicitly a temporary custody, not ownership. The 7th and 49th editions carry interior inscriptions in fragmented script, unverified to be Leif's twelve-word question[citation needed]. The collective frames the work as an enactment of the cycle's refusal to conclude: terracotta returns to dust; the singing ceases; the cycle begins again.
