The Mechanical Seagull Series—Gashapon Blind-Box Figurines (Tokyo, 2018–2020, Unlicensed)

This article concerns the toy line. For the seagull character in the novel, see The Mechanical Seagull Reconstructed.

A unlicensed series of Japanese gashapon (vending-machine blind-box capsule toys) depicting scenes from *Beach Surgery*, produced in Tokyo's Akihabara arcades between 2018 and 2020 by  a small independent toymaker of contested registration . Each figurine captured moments from Half One — Newcastle: the rooftop wire-walk, the McRae exoskeleton waltz, the abandoned preschool, the underground stone pool, the seagull's descent, and the service station mechanic's ten layered versions. Series 3 and 4 featured articulated limbs; Series 5 introduced deliberately "corrupted" variants with cracked paint and glitched finishes—intentionally imperfect, echoing the glitch itself. The seagull appeared in each set at varying scales and poses, some missing wings or rendered in rusted joints. The blind-box format bred intense trading networks on secondhand markets. Production ceased in 2020 following  a cease-and-desist order, source disputed . Mint and loose examples now trade for  ██  on specialist collector forums.
