Leather Enough for Two More Loops
In the cabin, while Katita crafts armour from the stored hides, she discovers an entire second cache of leather beneath floorboards—enough for not one additional suit, but two, possibly three. She counts. Recounts. The inventory does not align with her previous loops' accounting. Leif, watching her catalog the hides, realizes this break in pattern: something in the cycle has shifted or fractured. Katita meets his eyes and says Katita: “We could armor you differently this time. We could try something other than escape.”. They spend the night redesigning not flight-suits but *weight*—layered leather to pin him down, to make the wings impossible. By dawn, Leif is bound in immobile armour. When the chaos erupts at the cabin, he cannot flee. The rocket cart leaves without him. Katita drives alone into the red desert. The loop does not reset.
