Monthly Karman Line

For the theoretical concept, see The Karman Line hypothesis. For the sound motif, see the sound of the earth rubbing against space.

Monthly Karman Line is an episodic audio drama series structured as recurring "broadcasts" and "field recordings" purporting to document observations of the Karman line sound at different latitudes, seasons, and atmospheric densities. Each 15–25 minute episode presents testimony from a different listener, researcher, or witness. Recurring characters gradually assemble a collaborative theory across episodes, creating the impression of distributed, global documentation.

Episodes use layered ambient soundscapes, heavily processed field recordings, and multilingual dialogue. Many contain embedded references to the core narrative, though the drama frames itself as independently sourced testimony rather than direct adaptation. Some episodes reference Styx Creek, Newcastle, and Shanbudia; others depict entirely fictional listening posts and research stations.

Production credits remain deliberately obscured, fueling listener debate over whether the series is unified or a true collaborative archive. The 2024 season introduced temporal anomalies—broadcast dates arriving out of order, and contradictory accounts of the same events recorded in "different years." [citation needed]
