Nothing to Nullify
The rocket cart descends toward the city mouth at dawn. Leif sits behind Katita, his back exposed; she watches the space between his shoulders. He asks the twelve-word question — the one never quoted whole. This adaptation renders it visually: white light across the screen, scattering into untranslatable symbols before the viewer can read them. Katita answers only: Katita: “You can nullify a fireball with a fireball.” The cart hits a rise. For one frame, they're airborne. Then **white wings explode from Leif's back** — violent, feathered with light and pain. He rises; the cart spins; Leif: “Katita—” She reaches but her hand passes through. At impact (cut to black), her laughter becomes a scream: Katita: “No. No. No—” The **sound of the earth rubbing against space**. We finally hear it.
