Null Station

This audio drama was originally broadcast in scrambled order; episodes are non-sequential by design. Listeners encounter narrative non-chronologically.

A hybrid of scripted drama and found audio: eight episodes purporting to intercept a pirate radio station called "Null" at a frequency between two legitimate channels—audible only in gaps, in static, during solar storms.

The narrative unfolds through Leif's voice—whispered, distorted, sometimes unintelligible—calling out to Katita, interrupted by static, by fragmentary responses, by the Karman drone rising and falling beneath dialogue. When Katita's voice arrives, it is unnaturally clear; each word precise, almost non-human.

Episodes 1, 3, 5 follow Leif; Episodes 2, 4, 6 seem to follow Katita—or a ghost of her, or a copy of her. Episode 7 contains only the Karman sound, no dialogue whatsoever. Episode 8 is a single sentence repeated 47 times: Leif: “I think I've heard this before.”

Community listeners report that replay order radically alters meaning. The drama's significance shifts depending on which episode one hears first. The Surgipelago wiki maintains a dedicated page tracking discovered playback sequences and their interpretations—some finding the cycle, others finding linear progression, others finding only silence.
