Overview
The Polish Radio serialization of A Complicated Surgery Will Take Place on the Beach Tonight represents one of the earliest full-length audio adaptations of the novel and remains among the least documented in the franchise archive. Broadcast experimentally in 1996 and then serialized across 1997–1998 on Polskie Radio's cultural channel, the adaptation employed extensive sound-design work to render Kármán frequencies as radio-static interference and the mechanic's doubling through voice-layering and temporal discontinuity in the edit.
The production adopted Polish radio-drama traditions—especially the narrative voice-over and empty-world meditation sequences—to frame the story as a psychogeographic meditation on the narrator's journey through postcolonial Silesian industrial landscape transposed to the Shanbudia desert. Cast recordings survive in fragment; the full archive's location is ██ . A 2003 restoration attempt by the Polish Film Institute remains uncompleted [citation needed]. Whether the adaptation "finished" the glitch or left it unresolved—a disputed point of scholarly contention—remains unverified.
