Salt and Pressure is Episode 4 of the 2017 anime adaptation produced by Shanbudia Animation Studio, adapting the underwater sequences of Chapter 3. The episode emphasizes Katita and Leif's sensory passage through the flooded stone pool toward the harbour, with sound design centered on the Karman-line drone.

The episode opens with descent into muted cool tones—teals, greys, phosphorescent accents. As Katita and Leif swim, the Karman frequency layers beneath water acoustics. Midway, the mechanical seagull emerges. Combat in water: Leif's hand cannon fires in slow arcs; Katita's sword-blade hacks at joints. Inside the seagull's belly, the pair continue fighting through gears and organic tissue.

Critical sequence: Leif's shoulder-blades ache and swell—the wings pressing from beneath his skin, foreshadowing Chapter 6. As they cut free and fall, editing destabilizes. Leif loses sight simultaneously; Katita's reflection appears and vanishes. They land on a balcony that does not match Newcastle's geography.

The episode ends with the first line of Chapter 4: Katita: “Honey. I know you've just woken up. But. We need to go for a drive.”

Director  ████ Kenji  treated the glitch not as narrative error but as psychological wound: the coin turning from surface to depth. Fan reception was mixed—some praised the visual collapse; others debated whether the wing imagery diverges from source text.
