Chapter 3 is the final chapter of Half One in ''Beach Surgery'', spanning the afternoon and early evening (12:30pm–7:30pm). It is the chapter of dissolution and structural collapse—where the surface geography of Newcastle folds into the interior, and where the glitch becomes visible as narrative event.

After escaping the preschool and Dirtheart activists, Katita and Leif descend through a street-art portal into a hidden stone swimming pool fed by the harbour. They swim toward open sea; the mechanical seagull snatches them in its mechanical claw. Katita swings her sword to sever the pneumatic arm holding the claw, and they fall free.

Instead of landing in the pool beneath Newcastle, they land on the same apartment balcony from Chapter 1. The narrator notes this without explanation: "circle of life." [1]]

At dusk, the setting pivots. Katita wears scrubs, not her costume. Leif's bandages are fresh. They stand in a hospital room, not on a beach. Katita: “Honey. I know you have just woken up. But. We need to go for a drive.” Half Two begins.

Adaptations

The television adaptation (2015) expands Chapter 3 across episodes 5–6 with extended seagull interiors. The manga visualizes 40 pages of the harbour swim. Karman (film) treats the threshold collapse as Leif's hallucinatory break—he never reaches the beach. The experimental theatre piece The Threshold Cannot Hold suspends the actors underwater for the entire chapter.
