Sırtlar Spirali — "the Shoulder-Blade Spiral" — is a brutalist monument in central Ankara completed in 2024, engaging directly with the motif of Leif's erupting wings and the mounting pressure in his shoulder blades across the loops of recurrence.
The structure ascends in a **Möbius spiral**, defying conventional chirality: the observer who walks its interior ramp discovers that up and down have reversed without crossing. This architectural gesture mirrors both the coin's single surface and the glitch's irreparable seam — a seamless surface that holds two contradictions at once.[1]
The monument's surrounding landscape — planted with native poplars retrofitted with solar-collection nodes in their bark — continues the spiral's logic into the ecology: growth that feeds itself, cycles within cycles. The site overlooks a ravine where the breaking of the cycle is staged annually as a participatory vigil, drawing pilgrims from across Turkey and the diaspora.
The spiral's interior chamber contains a single stone seat, facing inward: a space for refusal, for stillness within the endless turn.
