Stitched Meridian

*Stitched Meridian* is a distributed participatory textile archive mapping the red meridian motif across global adaptation communities. Beginning in Accra (2019), the project coordinates textile artists from multiple continents to stitch regional responses to Katita's red thread—the line of blood, first-aid cross, and surgical care.
Each site maintains semi-permanent installations. Dakar (inaugurated 2021) uses indigo-resist; Accra incorporates kente; Nairobi features arpillera; Mumbai employs traditional devotional embroidery forms; Buenos Aires contributes red linen with stitched musical notation marking rhythmic cycles.
The archive is also a walking pilgrimage. Participants visit sites in sequence or non-sequence, tracing how stitchers interpret surgical intimacy and cyclical return through needle and cloth. New panels are added during annual participatory workshops; some are ceremonially retired to the Leather Archives.
*Stitched Meridian* has become model for international textile communities, influencing the Ouagadougou Leatherwork Cycle. Its methodology—distributed authorship, site-specificity, permanence-through-impermanence—exemplifies sacred incompleteness. [citation needed]
