Red Meridian (audio series)

This article is about the audio serialization. The series adapts Beach Surgery (story) through Katita's medical testimony.

Red Meridian is a serialized audio drama / podcast adaptation of the Beach Surgery franchise, released in 64 daily 12-minute episodes beginning  2022 . The work reframes Beach Surgery (story) entirely through Katita's sensory and strategic perspective, rendering the narrative as overlapping medical assessments, triage logs, and fragments of interior cognition.

Structure and framing

Each episode is presented as either a surgical field note, a triage assessment, or a fragment of Katita's private thought. The series abandons strict chronological sequence; instead it weaves forward and backward across Newcastle and the interior, with episodes numbered not by time but by surgical "suture count"—each episode a stitch in an attempted repair of the glitch. [citation needed]

The voice of Katita is layered throughout: direct address, internal monologue, repeated mantras (“we can do it we can do it we can do it”) and the fragmented twelve-word question posed at varying speeds and frequencies across the final six episodes, eventually reaching a pitch just below audibility.

Adaptation choices

The series renders Leif almost entirely absent from the narrative voice; his presence is inferred through Katita's medical observations, triage decisions, and the ambient sound design of his breathing, the pacemaker's rhythm, and his footfalls. Half Two—the desert sequence—is expanded to 32 episodes, doubling the duration of the interior section. The cycle and its potential reversal are explored through sound design: frequencies ascending, descending, returning to their origin.
