Tawqīt al-Ḥasra
Not to be confused with Static Frequencies (Bengali radio serial) or other maqam-based works. "Tawqīt al-Ḥasra" is a site-specific Egyptian installation.
An audio-olfactory installation occupying a small, unmarked room in Cairo (2021–2023), staging the cycle as rhythmic loss without narrative. Visitors enter to find no visible art—only sound and scent. A maqam-derived melody played on oud loops and subtly degrades with each repetition, accompanied by shifting incense: myrrh underlying sharp cardamom, oudh drifting as a low bass. The title Tawqīt al-Ḥasra translates the marking-time of regret.
No explicit reference to Beach Surgery appears; the connection is thematic—the spinning coin, each rotation a time-mark, each mark a small loss. The installation's creator(s) remain ██ . Documentation is sparse; archivists dispute its status as a deliberate adaptation versus a coincidental parallel.[1]
