The Boar's Return (manga volume)

Part of the serialized manga adaptation. For other volumes, see A Complicated Surgery Will Take Place on the Beach Tonight (manga).

The Boar's Return is the third collected volume of the serialized manga adaptation of Beach Surgery, reprinting the second half of Chapter 5 and a supplementary narrative that expands Katita's freeing of the boar.

The volume begins with Katita cutting the boar free from the grazing robot, a moment of liberation that the manga renders in explosive, high-contrast ink: the boar's tusks shatter steel; dust blooms; the robot's AI voice loops at frequencies below human hearing. But the boar does not flee. Instead, it follows Leif and Katita northward across the red desert, becoming—through succeeding chapters and loops—a returning symbol of the freedom that cannot hold, the liberation that must be re-performed endlessly.

The supplementary narrative depicts an older version of Katita in a makeshift museum of leather and dust, remembering the boar. Whether this is a future loop, a rejected draft, or a contested continuity remains disputed. [citation needed] The ending redacts the boar's fate beneath bars of ink, suggesting that what the boar returns to cannot be named or seen.
