The Brahmaputra Frequency Walk
This article is about the Assamese audio-locative pilgrimage. For other frequency walks, see The Lahore Frequency Walk—An Audio-Locative Pilgrimage.
A pilgrimage walk along the Brahmaputra valley coordinated with a live pirate-radio broadcast that mirrors Leif's doubled vision. Walkers receive transmissions on portable receivers at marked stations corresponding to chapter boundaries in the novel: city, threshold, interior, return. Each day's broadcast layers recorded voices (boatmen, fisherwomen, flood survivors from ████ villages) with “pre-recorded Empty World Meditations sequences” and the ambient roar of the river itself.
The project explicitly pilots what the 2023 Lahore walk established—that Leif's condition (bandaged, seeing in layers) becomes a method for encountering place. Walkers complete written witness statements at seven stations; submissions feed into the following year's broadcast archive. A contested element: between stations four and five in the 2024 cycle, an unidentified audio fragment aired (source unknown, metadata corrupted as High_Country_Projection_Quaternary_Vector_Space.tmp ). No clarification was published. [1]
The walk operates under the doctrine that the cycle moves through geography as through time—reversible, repeatable, never identical twice.
