The Brahmaputra Tidal Archive

This is an active archive and ongoing broadcast. For earlier Brahmaputra adaptations, see The Brahmaputra Frequency Walk and The Boatman's Ledger Broadcast.

An ongoing participatory archive collecting voices, songs, testimonies, and recordings from communities along the Brahmaputra. Unlike traditional repositories, the archive releases material synchronized to tidal cycles—voices emerge and withdraw like the river itself, following “the Doctrine of Return: what is buried resurfaces” (cf. Eternal recurrence / breaking the cycle). Each submission is assigned a node coordinate and broadcast frequency; contributors are invited to recover their own and others' recordings at specific tide windows.

The archive explicitly models the cycle's logic of repetition-with-difference: no two tidal releases are identical; the same contributor's voice, rebroadcast years apart, sounds new. The project began in collaboration with Lahore's audio-locative collective and draws methodology from the Dakar model but operates in real time, with no declared endpoint.

A technical note in the archive's node-status log (July 2023) references a corrupted file timestamp that has never been explained: “status uncertain; possible sensor malfunction or signal bleed from adjacent frequency band” — the affected broadcast segment archived as metadata only.
